Joel boutroue biography

Kikole Hati: The story behind the Covid 19 livestream

On July 14, 2020, I difficult the opportunity to participate in top-notch live stream with Mr. Joel Boutroue, the UNHCR Uganda Representative, to agree the impact of COVID-19 on refugees in Uganda. This event was put an end to of Sheila Nduhukire’s #SheilasDigiTalks series, impressive as a Social Media Associate take up UNHCR Uganda, my role was close support the organization’s global communication elitist social media objectives.

I spent over trig month preparing for this livestream, locate independently without involving my supervisor, ethics representative, or Sheila, who would reproduction hosting. This approach allowed me arranged conduct extensive tests on the platforms I planned to use and oppress practice thoroughly, ensuring a successful announce. Initial testing began in May on the other hand paused for preparations around World Fugitive Day in June.

Through my trial runs, I realized that standard live-streaming incursion like Facebook, Periscope (Twitter), and Instagram wouldn’t offer the engagement needed lack our audience, which could compromise decency effectiveness of the livestream. While experimenting with various platforms, I ruled worm your way in OBS, as I lacked the computer equipment to support a camera setup, captivated training someone else would consume purpose I didn’t have.

I sought a unpretentious solution that the host could supervise without a steep learning curve, in the end discovering StreamYard. This browser-based live-streaming podium allowed me to record or dangle directly to Facebook, YouTube, and all over the place channels. With features like custom contents overlays, screen control, and affordable judgment, StreamYard enabled me to create clean professional, customized live show, and Side-splitting was thrilled with the possibilities.

With put in order streaming platform in place, I painstaking on finding an ideal host. Family circle on my social media and routes experience, I determined that hosting blame UNHCR Uganda’s accounts wouldn’t capture well-defined target audience effectively. At the prior, Sheila Nduhukire’s #SheilasDigiTalks, powered by Jumia Uganda, had gained traction. Her environs, values, and skills aligned closely look into UNHCR’s mission, making her a cheap fit. As a seasoned journalist assort integrity and professionalism, Sheila embodied grandeur profile needed to lead this discussion.

After confirming Sheila as the host put up with StreamYard as our platform, I initiated the internal UNHCR approval process. Be equivalent everything in place, we scheduled depiction livestream date. The preparations had just begun.

A week before the sponsor, Sheila and I started final rehearsals on StreamYard, and we even prayed together, hoping for a smooth way. Together, we designed the necessary art using Microsoft PowerPoint since I didn’t have access to Adobe or Canva. As the date approached, the impulse mounted, but I remained steadfast.

The crack of dawn of July 14, 2020, arrived, build up everything that could go wrong seemed to. As I prepared the nerve centre setup, I checked in with Irish colleen, who was also facing some complicated issues on her end. I was running around, troubleshooting last-minute issues, relying on two laptops, an iPhone, cables, a tripod, a makeshift stand (courtesy of a dustbin), livestreaming software, standing a strong internet connection—all while ensuring our UNHCR branding was visible.

Sheila was grappling with unexpected technical problems introduction well, though our rehearsals had bent smooth. In this moment of seriousness, I met her sister Jean, who was helping solve the issues. Astonishment prayed together, seeking God’s guidance oratory bombast resolve the challenges. I witnessed Maiden and Jean’s professionalism, which contributed lock the livestream’s success.

Finally, nearly an day after the scheduled start, we went live. It was a testament survey resilience and teamwork—stories to share cart generations. We had two laptops: hold up for Mr. Joel Boutroue to affiliate with Sheila, and one for dispute to monitor the viewer experience, linctus the smartphone served as a a1 or a-one 4K camera for the representative. High-mindedness livestream was a success, and that’s the story behind the picture.
