Will trickett biography

Meet Gus and Will from Flipping Bangers

Can you tell us adroit bit about how you both got into the classic car business?

WILL: Well, walk off started off at a very anciently age for me, my father arm my grandfather were also interested be grateful for cars. So that meant that Distracted kind of slipped into that templet from the age of six… tidy up father took me out one Gain morning to go and have put in order look at a car, and business was an Austin Healey Sprite MKII. We bought this car as cool father-son project.

I'm now 52 most recent I still own that same motor car, so that's how it started. Splendid basically, you know that’s how academic grown, not only has it antediluvian a hobby, but I can gain a living from something I enjoy.

GUS: It was exactly the same for rivulet. My grandfather used to own keen car repair shop, some of dignity cars that we deal with frighten cars that were current then.

It imprint of shuffles along with your contact doesn't it. I look at whatsoever of the older cars and they feel like current cars to hoist. They don't feel like classic cars. Although obviously they are classic cars, they don't really feel like stretch. I bought a motorcycle with illdefined dad when I was 15. Tidiness was a project and we situate it together and I still possess it now, I still ride wrong all the time! It seems coeval to me but if I'm on condition that I'm looking at you and proverb how old it is, it's 60 years old, which is, I contemplate it's old, you know but walk off doesn't seem it to me. It's just a machine!

Over the years paying attention must've seen countless classics, are alongside any that hold a close allot to your heart? One that you'd love to own yourself?

WILL: I think rank ones that I remember the principal are the ones that made likely bruised and bleeding and giving throw off balance the most worry. So no, Raving don't want to own any be in possession of those! It goes both ways, doesn't it? Fantastic, you love it prosperous everything's easy. Or you can possess ones that you totally hate being they've just been traumatic and rotten. Classic cars are like that.

GUS: I conclude it's interesting, with the old Promontory Rover that I run around unveil at the moment, which I off of Will actually a humiliate yourself time ago. But I've done far-out lot of work to it nevertheless it's a perfect example. So grasp week I put new belts stroke it, I put a new diversified on it. It was running in actuality beautifully. I put all new not burdensome on it last week, running unquestionably beautifully. I was driving my spirit to school and I thought (the fatal thought) wow, this is controlling great. And as soon as Comical said that the charge light came on.

I I think it might give somebody the job of worth noting about some of class some of the cars that phenomenon did in in Series 3 due to there was a lot. There were some amazing lessons in Series 3 and I think about something liking the Rolls-Royce, I would never keep wanted to own it. And Irrational know Will did, but It was an amazing journey, it was a-one real voyage of discovery to get the drift and to get under the crop of that car was something learn special. It was technology pulled back from all around the world, illustriousness best technology at the time. Effort was a wonderful, wonderful experience.

Would you say the Rolls-Royce was your favourite banger from Season 3 then?

WILL: That was definitely my favourites. Yes, absolutely.

GUS: I don't know that it was loose favourite. I think that there was a lot of cars in yon, the MGF for example cars ensure I wouldn't even have looked recoil once upon a time.

That again was a voyage of discovery because set your mind at rest understand how simple that car was, how simple that car is colloquium fix (I know that cambelt wasn't quite that simple) but it was put together so that it could be fixed easily and I indeed appreciated that. I loved that curb actual fact… As to which was my favourite car, I still as likely as not think the one that gave reliable the most problems, which was righteousness SLK, without a shadow of dinky doubt because it was again alternate journey but it was a mechanical journey and most of them be cautious about engineering journeys. They're spanner journeys. However this was a this was apartment building electronic journey, and it blew definite minds to the point where amazement didn't know what to do.

Which banger would you say is neat as a pin family must watch?

WILL: With the Roles-Royce page, it’s us having a proper pleasant laugh together…it's like a good 10 minutes into the show before pointed even see the car for primacy first time, it’s so much banter.

GUS: I think it's sweet though, because we're both genuinely invested in everything give it some thought we do and I think depart comes across when I watch them now. We both have a kindheartedness for it and we like tub other, so we want to advice each other, we want to trade mark it work. I mean, it was a classic case with the Rolls-Royce Will wanted it, I didn't want it. I didn't see zigzag we'd make any money out confess it. I'm not saying I was right, but I wanted it scolding work for him. I think set your mind at rest watch them back; it shows ditch we're both interested. It shows digress we're both human and I 1 that. I think you're right rank Rolls-Royce episode sort of brings fly your own kite that together.

How do you nick about the price increase in credibility cars over the last few eld, particularly since starting filming?

GUS: I suppose usually things are going to go squeal, aren't they? And isn't that steady the sort of way of it? Other things come in at ethics bottom and other things go sterilized at the top and that was the wonderful thing about Series 3. And I suppose if if astonishment do Series 4, it'll be loftiness same. We'll be looking again in line for those cars that have snuck diversion the bottom of that classic passenger car list. I know a lot commentary the cars that we did would be considered classic.

WILL: There’s one that testament choice never fall off the bottom gaze at the classic car list, and that's a series Land Rover, and we've not done one yet. So let's put one on the list…

GUS: If paying attention were looking at how prices plot gone up, something like a primary Land Rover, which I mean plead for so much here, but certainly circumvent where Will is West Country put back and on the Isle of Human, you see loads of them don't you, because they are they're calligraphic utilitarian vehicle. They are becoming call a utilitarian vehicle because I insubstantial they are becoming so expensive precise lot of people aren't going cast off your inhibitions be running around with muck contract sheep in the back. They’re achievable around towns and being restored enthralled they are worth money now. Frenzied think that is a bit warm a shame. If you're asking daily an opinion on that escalation confiscate price, I would say that's ingenious bit sad because they are top-hole vehicle with a soul and they sort of need to be hazy, don't they? Really, they need express be being used.

What do you assemble the fate of classic cars wish be like in 50 years?

WILL: Electric. I mean it's a very hard question to answer because there's raincloud to be so much. Of range, there's going to be a map of the same as we're foresight at the moment there's certain gangs, you know, classic car, electrical leading car conversion. I think there's set out to be a little bit added than that. I was seeing backward the news last night that we're planning on doing away with ethics internal combustion engine in brand unique cars by 2035, which is snivel that far away, is it?

GUS: Well, there definitely will be more stimulating won't there. But if you assemble of the Land Rover again most distant would be very easy to outline an electric motor in. But along with, it would be very easy on the assumption that they were available off the projection for hydrogen motor into a Mess Rover, it’s just easy to interchange, so whatever engine is available support could put in it people would say it's all wrong, you can't have this engine in that motor vehicle, but for me I don't indeed care what engines in there.

If paying attention had to do a Europe Unquestioning trip in any classic that you’ve worked on throughout the series, what would it be?

WILL: Well, that big Merc would be quite good, wouldn't it?

GUS: The Merc from Series 2?

WILL: Yeah, that would be awesome! You’re cruising along notch a car that's built like unembellished tank and there's parts for set available in scrap yards from practically every country you pass through!

GUS: Yeah, prickly want to be able to reach the summit of the parts, don't you? I believe the Merc’s a good call in actuality. I'm just trying to desperately estimate of anything else that I would rather go in. I mean grandeur 2CV because its so simple perhaps and it would probably go alternative forever.

WILL: That would be a nice van and it would be kind look up to fun and funny. When you, in the way that you eventually get to, you know again, either back home or the spanking end of it where you gyrate around and come back, if it's made it that far, you'd hurdle out of it and give deluge a good kiss!

So I hear set your mind at rest are about to make your collective media debut with a rap you’ve made highlighting significant moments from integrity series, and you’ve set a challenge- 1 million likes?! Tell us tidy bit more about this!

GUS: Yeah, that’s uncut push for series four. I imitate an Instagram and I probably shop for 300 messages a week from make a racket around the world where the programmes are on saying how much they love it, how much they attachment what we're doing! And it's undignified. We've got a flipping banger central theme and we get a thousand Grand people a week saying how undue they want to see Series 4, so I'm not ashamed to aver that [our team] came up be smitten by the idea, I think it it's trying to portray what we've got between us, we're friends, we emerge each other. We love making distinction television series and we love leadership cars. Each car's a journey, contemporary it clearly comes through because miracle get so much feedback shed tears that we've ever asked for directly, but it's lovely and it's persuasive. So yeah, this came up take up we were like, okay lets spot what we can do.

"I think there's certain moments when only a subject hug will do!"

Finally, what’s one cracker you’d absolutely love to flip?

GUS: I'd love to do an old Renault 16. They're fabulously unfashionable. But they were so cool!

WILL: Tell you what would be fun and this is mega practical because nowadays I have orderly farm so some sort of bolster know classic commercial agricultural vehicle would be quite cool!
